Lawrence “Larry L. Gevry Sr., age 89, of Webster, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Lanessa Extended Care, Webster.
His wife, Leona (Noga) Gevry died in 1994. He leaves five sons, Lawrence L. Gevry Jr. of Higganum, Connecticut., Leonard Gevry of Webster, Louis Gevry of Dudley; Lawrence Gevry of Southbridge, and Lloyd Gevry of East Killingly, Connecticut; ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Rita Bohenko of Webster.
Larry was born in Webster, son of the late Lawrence G. and Agnes (Walsh) Gevry. He was the step-son of the late John Henault. He lived in Webster all his life. He was a graduate of Bartlett High School and was a Police Officer / Police Photographer in Webster for 36 years. Additionally, he was a photographer for over 33 years for the Webster Times and the Webster Patriot. He was a freelance photographer for the Worcester Telegram and the Catholic Free Press.
Larry was a World War II, United States Navy and Merchant Marines Veteran and was involved in the Normandy Invasion. He was a parishoner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Webster, where he served as Eucharitistic Mininster and Sacrastarian. He had a devotion to the rosary and prayed daily.
Service Information
The funeral was held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, with Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, East Main Street, Webster, with visitation in the church from 10 to 11 a.m. (Please go directly to church). The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide military honors following the Mass. Additional visitation were held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School Street, Webster. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
