The
rehabilitation project will require the water main to be taken off-line while
the main is being mechanically cleaned and re-lined with a cured-in-place structural
liner. This structural liner will add approximately
60 years of life to the main, which was originally installed in 1908. Once the liner is tested and cleaned, the
water main and existing water services will be put back on-line. New fire hydrants and water main valves are
also part of the rehabilitation project.
It is anticipated that the project will take three (3) months to
complete.
In order to continue to provide water to those houses affected by the project, the Town’s contractor, Onyx Corporation of Acton, MA will be installing a temporary by-pass water system. The temporary water system will consist of 4-inch water mains placed along the edge of the street with temporary fire hydrants, and one-inch service lines running to each house. The Webster Water Department staff will be assisting the town’s contractor with the service switch over once the temporary system has been constructed, disinfected and tested. The Department will ultimately need access to your house to shut the water service off at the meter and to ensure the temporary service is operating correctly. This service switch over will not take place for several weeks. Click here for additional information.
