[ARCHIVED] 11th Annual Junior Police Academy

JPA 2019 FLYER

11th Annual Junior Police Academy

Welcome Parents and Students to the 11th Annual Junior Police Academy!  First off we would like to extend a thank you to the parents, students, and citizens of Webster for allowing the Webster Police Department to conduct such a great event.  The cost of this event is free!  This is in part due to the other community policing events that are held throughout the year and is funded by donations given to the Webster Police Department and from monies earned during fundraisers.

As it is written on the top of this letter the Webster Police Department is “Community Committed.”  The Webster Police Department has not only conducted the Junior Police Academy for the past ten years, the Department also holds a “Hoops 4 Hope” program for young adults on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, from 7pm to 10pm, during the summer months.  The Webster Police Department also hosts other events, such as National Night Out each year.

For the Junior Police Academy, your son/daughter will be introduced to many different resources the Webster Police Department has to offer to the Community.  All of the instructors in the Junior Police Academy have been through a rigorous 21 week Full-Time Police Academy.  Some of the instructors have specialized training in the fields that interest them or in fields in which the Department has a need.  During the Junior Police Academy students observe and even participate in demonstrations from various Police Officers in units such as, K-9 Unit, Traffic Unit, Crime Scene Services, Community Policing, and Detective Bureau; to include Task Force Officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration, as well as participation in the topic of Defensive Tactics.  Many more topics will also be covered.

Inside this packet is a list of items each student will need every day when coming to the Junior Police Academy.  The Junior Police Academy students will be put through some form of Physical Training during the week.  For this Physical Training we ask the parents to make sure prior to each day of arriving at the Academy students bring with them any required medications, such as an inhaler or some other form of medication.  Their medication, etc. will remain with them throughout the day.  Due to liability if they do not have their medication, the student will not be allowed to participate in any physical activities for that day.

The Junior Police Academy will be held from July 8th, 2019 to July 12th 2019. Each day will be from 7:00am to 3:00pm. The Academy will be held at the Webster Police Department 357 Main Street Webster, MA  01570. Deadline to submit a completed application will be June 1st, 2019, by 11:00pm. Any questions please contact Officer Bruce F. Hamm at 508-943-1212 Ext. 1250 or email at Bruce.hamm@websterpolice.com.  We hope to see you here!
