With Webster Lake levels being unusually high for this time of year, we ask all boaters to be mindful of their wakes in order to minimize property damage around the lake. This includes a request to avoid water sports that create a wake and restrict motoring to headway speed this weekend. Headway speed is the slowest speed that a boat can be operated and maintain steerage (usually no greater than 5 mph). Remember that boaters are responsible for their wakes.
With the near record rainfalls so far this month, the dam at Stump Pond continues to be open and should reduce water levels by at least one inch per day - if Mother Nature cooperates! Increasing the rate of flow through the dam any more would have negative impacts down river through the Millbrook Spillway.
It looks like we will have a weather window to launch the fireworks tomorrow night (7/10). The fireworks company will begin setting up later today and have additional crews here Saturday to complete preparation. If there are changes, we will provide an update.
REMINDER - As previously noted, the boat ramp at Memorial Beach will be closed the entire day tomorrow (7/10) as the fireworks are prepared.
Due to new restrictions Nipmunc Cove will be restricted from boat traffic. Buoys will be in place, and no boat traffic will be allowed to pass.
Remember that the evening of the fireworks is traditionally one of the busiest times on the lake. Headway speeds should be adhered to at all times.
The Webster Police Department and the Massachusetts Environmental Police will be on patrol.
Thank you for your cooperation and consideration. Please be safe.
