Webster Water Sewer Commission News Release

April 21, 2023

On April 06, 2023 the Webster Water Sewer Commission held a meeting and opened a public hearing for the purpose of setting the fiscal year 2024 water and sewer rates which go into effect on July 01, 2023.  Water rates will increase 15% ($72.07 to $82.88) $10.81 per 1,000 cu/ft and sewer rates will increase  ($97.65 to $107.42) $9.77 per 1,000 cu/ft.  The senior discount rate  will remain the same at 20%.

The primary driver of the these increase’s is the need to deal with PFAS treatment and continue important water/sewer infrastructure improvements.

Tighe & Bond our Engineering Consultant presented a full and comprehensive rate study along with a preview of the PFAS design.   The April 6th  hearing was recorded for the local channel and will be uploaded to YouTube.  We urge all customers and interested parties to view this hour long recording before voting for the PFAS treatment plant construction at the May Town Meeting.   This is a complex and unavoidable issue that we face.  Your support and vote for this mitigation plan is critical for the Town of Webster to secure the MassDEP Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) zero interest loan and 19.8% grant.  Both presentations can be viewed on our website at:  www.webster-ma.gov/242/Water-Department

The Webster Water Sewer Commission and Tighe & Bond will hold an additional public information session on the PFAS mitigation plan on April 27, 2023 at 6:30PM at the Town Hall in the Selectman’s Meeting Room, 350 Main Street, Webster, MA.  All interested parties are welcome to attend.

Please contact the Water & Sewer Department if you have any questions or concerns at (508) 949-3861 or 508-949-3865.
